Lumiette Goes Beyond the Bulb, Introduces Flat Panel Lamp

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following their recent “Most Likely to Succeed” Award in the Clean Tech category at ‘Launch: Silicon Valley 2009,’ clean energy start-up, Lumiette Inc., today officially introduced their concept of Flat Panel lighting.

Global warming and the energy crisis have generated an urgent need to replace the incandescent light bulb, patented by Edison in the 19th century, with a more efficient lightsource. Lumiette is thinking beyond the bulb, and has developed a Flat Panel Lamp (FPL) which consumes 75 percent less energy than the incandescent light bulb, lasts five times longer than the compact fluorescent lamp, is more attractive, affordable, and suitable for a range of commercial, industrial, and residential applications. While the lamp’s base technology is familiar fluorescent, its form factor is novel; essentially flat sheets of luminous glass, powered by external electrodes.

“At Lumiette, we are committed to providing an energy-efficient lightsource that is not only cost effective, long lasting, cool operating, and readily dimmable, but is also custom sizable,” said Lumiette President and CEO, Noel Park. “Lumiette’s FPLs break out of the standard bulb shape and size, making them more suitable for a wider range of applications, including those of more creative design.”

Presented in June by Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE), and sponsored by Garage Technology Ventures and Microsoft, Launch: Silicon Valley is a global event that annually showcases emerging products and services from around the world. Awardees from Silicon Valley, and beyond, were selected from 30 new companies that presented to an audience and panel of venture capital and angel investors who voted on finalists in six categories.
